Instagram Messages Outage Reported
On March 11, 2023, thousands of Instagram users began reporting issues with sending and receiving messages. The outage started around 2 AM in the United States and 7:40 AM IST in India, with the highest concentration of complaints originating from the U.S.
According to Downdetector, over 10,000 complaints were logged regarding Instagram access issues. Of these, 71 percent were related to problems accessing the app, while 20 percent of users reported server connection issues. Additionally, 5 percent experienced difficulties with the Instagram feed or timeline not loading.
As users faced difficulties, many turned to other social media platforms to confirm the outage. Reports indicated that around 250 users in India and 170 users in the United Kingdom also experienced problems at the same time.
One user expressed frustration, stating, “My messages, my contacts on Instagram, I can’t use the search tool or even scroll up! The whole thing is just broken right now.” Another user remarked, “Instagram went down in the middle of 3 different conversations,” highlighting the disruption in communication.
The complaints peaked early in the morning on March 11, with users voicing their concerns online. One user humorously questioned, “Are Instagram dms down or… am I cooked?” indicating the widespread confusion surrounding the outage.
Despite the significant number of complaints, Meta has not commented on the situation. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact cause of the outage, and speculation linking it to the ongoing US-Iran war has been dismissed.
As of now, users continue to experience challenges with Instagram messaging, and the platform’s functionality remains under scrutiny. The impact of this outage is notable, as it disrupts communication for users across various regions, particularly in the United States.
While users await a resolution, the incident underscores the reliance on social media platforms for daily communication and the potential disruptions that outages can cause.
