India Post GDS 2026: Recruitment Updates and Commemorative Events

India Post GDS 2026 Updates

India Post has made significant announcements regarding its Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment for 2026. The UP GDS merit list was released on March 6, 2026, marking a crucial step in filling 28,636 posts across various postal circles in India.

The document verification process for candidates in Uttar Pradesh is set to close on March 23, 2026. Candidates must present original documents for verification to confirm their appointment, as missing documents can delay or void selection during this critical phase.

Engagement letters for successful candidates are expected to be issued in phases following the completion of document verification. The pay band for engaged candidates ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 29,380, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing competitive compensation for postal services.

Commemorating Annapurna Devi

In addition to recruitment updates, India Post has also honored the legacy of Annapurna Devi, a notable Surbahar artist and member of the Maihar Gharana. A special cover was released on March 9, 2026, at the Kolkata General Post Office to commemorate her birth centenary.

The release of the special cover coincided with a music festival celebrating Annapurna Devi’s centenary, which took place from March 6 to March 8, 2026. This event highlighted her contributions to Indian classical music and was attended by numerous artists and admirers.

Nityanand Haldipur, a prominent figure in the music community, remarked, “This honor by the India Post has added a new dimension to this initiative,” emphasizing the cultural significance of the commemorative cover.

As India Post continues to engage with both recruitment and cultural initiatives, the developments surrounding the GDS recruitment and the tribute to Annapurna Devi reflect the organization’s multifaceted role in Indian society.
