FanCode and Genius Sports Compete for Indian Super League Commercial Rights

In a significant development for Indian football, FanCode has secured the status of the exclusive digital home for the Indian Super League (ISL) for the 2025-26 season. This comes as Genius Sports has submitted a staggering bid of ₹2,129 crore for a 20-year cycle linked to the ISL, highlighting the escalating competition for commercial rights in Indian sports.

FanCode’s bid, however, stands at ₹36 crore annually, with a 5 percent year-on-year increment, which is a stark contrast to Genius Sports’ ambitious proposal. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) opened bids for the commercial rights of its club competitions, which include not just the ISL but also the Federation Cup, Indian Women’s League, and IWL 2.

The successful bidder will enjoy the right of first refusal, a crucial advantage in the competitive landscape of sports broadcasting. The agreement also includes a clause for a 5 percent annual increment, which could significantly affect the financial dynamics of the league.

Historically, the AIFF has faced challenges in attracting bidders, leading to a commercial deadlock that delayed the start of the ISL 2025-26 season. The previous agreement with a different entity paid the AIFF a fixed ₹50 crore annually, which underscores the financial stakes involved in this bidding process.

As the ISL gears up for its 2025-26 season, which will feature a total of 91 matches and 14 clubs, the outcome of this bidding war will be pivotal. AIFF Deputy General Secretary M. Satyanarayan expressed gratitude to the ISL clubs and Executive Committee members for their support in unveiling the Request for Proposal (RFP), emphasizing the collaborative effort behind this initiative.

With the tender now open, observers are keenly watching how this competition unfolds and what it means for the future of football broadcasting in India. The landscape is shifting rapidly, and the implications of these bids could redefine the commercial viability of the league.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the final decision on the bids, but the stakes have never been higher for the Indian Super League as it seeks to enhance its profile and financial stability in the rapidly evolving sports market.
