Complaint Filed Against Hardik Pandya

“I believe it is an insult to the national flag,” stated advocate Wajid Khan Bidkar, who has filed a formal complaint against Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. The complaint arises from allegations that Pandya disrespected the national flag during celebrations following India’s victory over New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final.

The incident reportedly occurred after India secured a 96-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium, marking the team’s third T20 World Cup title. Videos circulating on social media depict Pandya dancing and lying down with the national flag wrapped around him, actions that have drawn criticism from Bidkar.

According to Bidkar, the actions of Pandya violate the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. He emphasized, “According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag.” The complaint was lodged at the Shivaji Nagar police station, where police confirmed receipt of the application but did not disclose any further details regarding potential action.

Bidkar further stated, “The national flag is a symbol of the entire nation, and we can file a complaint here,” highlighting the significance of the flag as a representation of national pride. The complainant insisted that the flag embodies the spirit of the country, thus justifying the legal action taken against Pandya.

The T20 World Cup final victory was historic, as it marked the first time India won the title on home soil and the first instance of consecutive titles, having previously won in 2007 and 2024. This context adds weight to the celebrations and the subsequent controversy surrounding Pandya’s actions.

As the situation unfolds, Bidkar remarked, “Let’s see what happens next. I have filed the complaint,” indicating that further developments may be anticipated. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the police’s next steps in addressing the complaint against Pandya.
