Karmayogi: A New Era in Public Service Training

“Nagrik Devo Bhav,” declared Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of the Karmayogi Sadhana Week on April 2, 2026. This phrase, which translates to “Citizens are God,” encapsulates the essence of the initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of government employees across India.

The Karmayogi Sadhana Week, running from April 2 to 8, 2026, is a significant milestone in the broader effort to improve public service. Launched by the Capacity Building Commission, this initiative is designed to strengthen the adaptive development and humane aptitude of civil servants, aligning with the vision of a developed India by 2047.

As part of the initiative, over 250 Civil Services Training Institutions will engage in structured capacity-building programs. These programs include webinars, workshops, and courses available on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, focusing on three key themes: Technology, Tradition, and Tangible Outcomes. The week is not just a celebration but a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation among civil servants.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Karmayogi Sadhana Week is an important link in that very endeavour.” This week marks the Foundation Day of the Capacity Building Commission and celebrates five years of Mission Karmayogi, a program designed to integrate technology into governance and enhance the efficiency of public service.

Reflecting on the future, Modi remarked, “Our aim is 2047. You must think about the effect our current actions will have on the country’s progress.” This forward-looking perspective underscores the urgency of equipping civil servants with the skills necessary to meet the challenges of modern governance.

In today’s rapidly changing environment, the significance of technology in public service cannot be overstated. Modi stated, “When we talk about learning, the importance of technology becomes immensely significant in today’s context.” The integration of technology into governance is not merely an enhancement; it is a necessity for effective public administration.

The Karmayogi Sadhana Week is a crucial step towards realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, where a well-trained and adaptive civil service will play a pivotal role in national advancement. As the week unfolds, civil servants across the country will engage in activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities in serving the public.

As this initiative progresses, the focus will remain on the tangible outcomes of these training programs, ensuring that the skills acquired translate into improved public service delivery. The commitment to Nagrik Devo Bhav will guide civil servants in their mission to serve the citizens of India with dedication and integrity.
