On April 19, 2026, a Fly91 flight en route from Hyderabad to Hubballi was diverted to Bengaluru due to bad weather—prompting questions regarding both passenger safety and operational procedures.

According to documents, the flight, which departed Hyderabad at approximately 3:30 PM, was scheduled to land in Hubballi at around 4:30 PM. However, after circling Hubballi for nearly an hour amidst turbulence, the aircraft ultimately landed in Bengaluru at about 6:30 PM.

There were 22 passengers on board, all of whom were reported safe following the incident. Notably, a video capturing the distress of some passengers during the flight circulated widely on social media, highlighting the panic experienced due to turbulent conditions.

Fly91 has stated that there was no technical snag with the aircraft and emphasized that diverting the flight was in line with standard operating procedures. An airport official confirmed, “Due to bad weather, the flight from Hyderabad to Hubballi was diverted to Bengaluru.” This suggests that such diversions are routine during periods of poor visibility or unstable weather.

Interestingly, reports suggesting a technical fault were characterized as false and baseless by Fly91. The airline further asserted that there was zero compromise to safety throughout the incident.

After landing in Bengaluru, the aircraft returned to Hubballi later that evening at approximately 11 PM. Of those who had initially boarded in Hyderabad, 18 passengers continued their journey after deboarding in Bengaluru.

This event is not isolated; similar weather-related disruptions were reported across the region on the same day. Hence, it raises broader questions about how airlines manage unforeseen circumstances while ensuring passenger safety.

While Fly91’s response appears consistent with industry practices aimed at prioritizing safety over schedule adherence, details remain unconfirmed regarding how such situations could be better managed in future instances.

Under his leadership, the company flourished, and he transferred his entire 37 percent stake to his son, Gautam Singhania, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership within the family.
The opening of Noida International Airport in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, is set to be a transformative catalyst for the National Capital Region (NCR) of India. After years of delays, this landmark infrastructure project is expected to unlock a wave of infrastructure-led growth, significantly impacting the region’s economy.

Initially, the airport will handle 12 million passengers per annum, with the potential to scale up to 70 million passengers as development progresses. This capacity expansion is crucial for meeting the growing demand for air travel in the region.

Developed under a Public-Private Partnership model, Phase I of the airport has seen an investment of approximately 11,200 crore. This substantial financial commitment underscores the project’s importance and the anticipated economic benefits it will bring.

The airport is expected to benefit various districts in Western Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Etawah, and Faridabad. This connectivity will not only facilitate travel but also enhance trade and tourism in these areas.

Anshuman Magazine, a prominent industry expert, noted, “The Jewar Airport is a landmark infrastructure project, not just for the NCR but for India’s broader economic geography.” This sentiment is echoed by Yash Miglani, who stated, “The launch of Noida International Airport is a defining moment for this region and will unlock tremendous potential for growth in terms of commercial and retail developments.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the airport’s significance, stating, “Airports are not just basic facilities in any country; they give wings to progress.” This perspective highlights the broader implications of the airport beyond mere transportation.

With the launch of Noida International Airport, the region is poised to enter a new era of planned urban development, supported by world-class infrastructure. Sanjay Sharma remarked, “With the launch of the Noida International Airport, the region is poised to enter a new era of planned urban development with the backing of world-class infrastructure.”

Despite the excitement surrounding the airport’s opening, details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for subsequent phases of development and the full realization of its passenger capacity. The anticipation of future growth continues to build as stakeholders await further announcements.

On March 26, 2026, Kolkata experienced severe weather conditions that significantly disrupted air travel, particularly affecting a chartered flight carrying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The flight, which took off from Andal Airport at approximately 3:30 p.m., was originally scheduled to land at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport around 4:00 p.m.

However, heavy rainfall and gusty winds forced the flight to remain airborne for an additional hour, delaying its arrival. The adverse weather conditions led to a ripple effect, impacting all flights operating at Kolkata airport during this period.

It wasn’t until around 5:30 p.m. that the flight finally landed safely at Kolkata airport, as the weather conditions improved just in time for the landing. This incident underscores the unpredictability of Kolkata’s weather, particularly in late March, when warm days can quickly turn into storms.

The timing of this disruption is particularly significant given the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, set to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results expected to be announced on May 4. The weather-related delays could have implications for campaign schedules and voter outreach efforts.

As Mamata Banerjee navigates the challenges of her travel plans amidst the unpredictable Kolkata weather, the situation serves as a reminder of how environmental factors can influence political dynamics. The ability to adapt to such disruptions will be crucial for all candidates as they prepare for the elections.

In summary, the weather in Kolkata has not only delayed flights but has also added a layer of complexity to the political landscape as the state approaches a critical electoral period. The events of this day highlight the interconnectedness of weather and political activities, a reality that candidates must contend with as they move forward.

Aloke Singh has been appointed as Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo, stepping in at a crucial time for the airline.

The post Aloke Singh Takes the Helm as Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo appeared first on NewsNationIndia.

How it unfolded

As IndiGo navigated through turbulent times, the airline found itself at a crossroads following the resignation of its CEO, Pieter Elbers, on March 10, 2026. The departure came on the heels of significant operational disruptions that plagued the airline in December 2025, where a staggering 2,507 flights were cancelled, affecting approximately 300,000 passengers. This operational crisis prompted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to impose a 10 percent cut in IndiGo’s winter schedule and levy penalties amounting to ₹22 crore.

In this challenging landscape, Aloke Singh has been appointed as the new Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo, effective April 6, 2026. Singh, who brings over 30 years of experience in the aviation sector, is expected to play a pivotal role in steering the airline towards recovery and growth. His extensive background includes senior leadership roles at Air India and Oman Air, as well as his recent tenure as Managing Director and CEO of Air India Express, where he successfully oversaw the merger of AirAsia India into the airline.

Singh’s appointment is not just a response to recent challenges but is also viewed as a strategic move aimed at enhancing IndiGo’s international expansion ambitions. As he steps into this role, Singh will lead long-term strategic planning and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, reporting directly to Managing Director Rahul Bhatia until a new CEO is appointed. Bhatia expressed confidence in Singh’s capabilities, stating, “Aloke brings an exceptional blend of strategic vision and operational depth.”

In his first public statement following the announcement, Singh expressed enthusiasm about joining IndiGo at a critical juncture, saying, “I am delighted to join IndiGo at such a pivotal moment for the airline,” and added, “I look forward to contributing to IndiGo’s next phase as it expands its global ambitions.” This sentiment reflects the urgency and importance of his role as the airline seeks to stabilize its operations and regain passenger trust.

Singh’s arrival comes at a time when IndiGo is still recovering from the operational challenges it faced in late 2025. The airline’s performance during that period was marred by not only flight cancellations but also delays, with 1,852 flights affected and a significant operational disruption that tested the resilience of its management team. The ramifications of these events have been profound, necessitating a strategic overhaul to restore IndiGo’s reputation as a reliable carrier.

As Singh takes the reins of the strategy department, he is expected to leverage his extensive experience to address the operational inefficiencies that contributed to the airline’s recent turmoil. His leadership will be crucial in formulating strategies that not only rectify past mistakes but also position IndiGo for future growth in a competitive market. The airline’s focus on international expansion is particularly significant, as it seeks to tap into new markets and diversify its revenue streams.

In summary, Aloke Singh’s appointment as Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo is a significant development for the airline as it seeks to navigate through its current challenges and aim for a more ambitious future. His extensive experience in the aviation sector, coupled with a strategic vision for growth, positions him well to lead IndiGo into its next chapter. The coming months will be critical as Singh implements his strategies and the airline works to regain its footing in the industry.

Air India Flights Resume Amid Rising Demand

Air India and Air India Express are set to operate a total of 58 flights to West Asia, linking India with key destinations in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. This significant increase in services comes as travel between these regions is experiencing a notable uptick.

Starting March 12, 2026, IndiGo will also resume flights to nine destinations in the Middle East, further enhancing connectivity for travelers. The renewed operations by these airlines highlight the growing demand for air travel in the region.

Air India is currently operating one round-trip flight from Delhi to Jeddah and two round-trip flights from Mumbai to Jeddah. Additionally, Air India Express is providing one round-trip service from both Bengaluru and Kozhikode to Jeddah.

In terms of services to Muscat, Air India is operating one round-trip flight from Delhi and Mumbai, along with two round-trips from Kozhikode. Both airlines are also offering a non-scheduled round-trip service to Riyadh from Mumbai and Kozhikode.

To accommodate the increased passenger volume, Air India and Air India Express have scheduled 78 extra flights between March 10 and March 18, 2026, focusing on long-haul routes. This expansion is a direct response to the rising travel demand in the Gulf region.

Passengers are advised to check their flight status regularly, as schedules may change at short notice. IndiGo has emphasized that “flight schedules may change at short notice,” reflecting the dynamic nature of air travel planning.

Moreover, Air India Express has announced that guests traveling to and from the Gulf region to India are eligible for a free date change or cancellation for travel scheduled until March 31, 2026. This policy aims to provide flexibility for travelers amid ongoing uncertainties.

As travel between the UAE and India picks up, the resumption of these flights marks a significant development in the aviation sector. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding the long-term sustainability of these operations as the situation evolves.

Flight Disruptions in Dubai

What are the implications of recent flight disruptions in Dubai due to regional tensions? A family stranded in the city managed to leave by traveling through Oman, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by travelers in the region.

The family, who initially planned to spend just one day in Dubai before returning to the United States, found their Emirates flight rescheduled multiple times due to aviation disruptions linked to escalating tensions in the area. “Our Emirates flight back to the U.S. kept getting rescheduled day-by-day and the customer service numbers weren’t working,” one traveler noted.

In an effort to reach their destination, the family chose to travel by road to Oman, where they obtained a visa on arrival after explaining their situation to immigration officials. They then flew from Muscat to Mumbai, boarding a Gulf Air flight. “Yes, it was expensive, but honestly worth it for peace of mind and to keep my family moving instead of waiting indefinitely,” the traveler added.

These disruptions are part of a larger context, as over 1,700 missiles and drones have been fired towards the UAE since the onset of the conflict, with more than 90% intercepted. This ongoing threat has led to significant increases in jet fuel prices, which have surged from around $85-$90 per barrel to between $150-$200.

In response to the crisis, Air India and Air India Express have announced they will operate a total of 60 flights to and from cities in the Middle East, aiming to assist those stranded. Thousands of British citizens are among those affected, with many registered with the UK government in the Middle East.

The UK is also conducting defensive air sorties in support of the UAE amid these ongoing missile threats. As Fawaz Gerges stated, “Dubai is really the epicenter of globalization,” underscoring the city’s significance in international travel and commerce.

UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan has emphasized the resilience of the nation, stating, “I say to them – do not be misled by the UAE’s appearance. The UAE has thick skin and bitter flesh – we are no easy prey.” This sentiment reflects the country’s determination to navigate through the current crisis.

As the situation continues to evolve, many travelers remain uncertain about their plans. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the disruptions and the measures being taken to address them.

Air India and Air India Express Maintain Operations

“Air India and Air India Express will continue to operate their respective scheduled services to and from Jeddah and Muscat on 9 March 2026, as the airspaces over Saudi Arabia and Oman remain open,” a spokesperson confirmed. This announcement comes as both airlines prepare to facilitate travel for passengers amidst the ongoing regional developments.

On March 9, 2026, Air India is scheduled to operate one round-trip flight each from Delhi and Mumbai to Jeddah. In addition, Air India Express will provide round-trip services from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kozhikode to Jeddah, along with flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tiruchirappalli to Muscat.

In total, Air India and Air India Express will operate a combined total of 32 ad-hoc non-scheduled flights to the UAE on that day. This includes 10 non-scheduled flights to and from Dubai, as well as special services to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al-Khaimah.

Despite the ongoing challenges in the region, the airlines are ensuring that travel options remain available. Scheduled flights of Air India Express to and from Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait, and Riyadh are currently cancelled until March 13, while Air India’s scheduled flights to and from Dammam, Doha, and Riyadh remain cancelled until March 10.

More than 52,000 Indians travelled safely from the Gulf region to India between March 1-7, 2026, highlighting the ongoing demand for air travel in the region. These flights are being operated with the requisite permissions from the relevant Indian and local regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations.

The Government of India is continuously monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and the Gulf region, especially with regard to the welfare of Indian nationals who have been stranded there during transit or on short-duration visits. This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens abroad.

As the situation develops, both Air India and Air India Express remain committed to providing essential air travel services, adapting to the needs of their passengers while navigating the complexities of the current environment.

Recent Developments at Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport has recently experienced significant disruptions, primarily due to a drone strike that led to the suspension of flight operations. Prior to this incident, the airport was operating normally, serving as a major hub for international travel.

The decisive moment came when the drone strike occurred, prompting immediate action. Following the attack, Emirates announced that all flights to and from Dubai would be suspended until further notice. This decision affected countless travelers and created uncertainty regarding their travel plans.

As a result of the drone strike, four staff members were injured, and a concourse at the airport sustained damage. The Dubai government reported that the incident was a minor one, with no injuries resulting from falling debris during an aerial interception. However, the immediate impact was felt by both airport staff and passengers alike.

On March 7, operations at Dubai airport partially resumed, with some flights operating from both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). Despite the resumption, passengers were urged to avoid traveling to the airport unless their flights were confirmed by their airlines, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty surrounding flight schedules.

Experts have noted that the air defenses of the United Arab Emirates are actively responding to missile and drone threats emanating from Iran, which has been targeting Dubai and Abu Dhabi since the onset of the conflict last week. This situation has raised concerns about the safety and security of air travel in the region.

In light of these developments, Emirates reiterated the importance of checking flight status before heading to the airport, stating, “Please do not go to the airport.” This message underscores the need for travelers to remain informed and cautious during this period of heightened security.

While Dubai airport has begun to resume operations, details regarding the extent of the damage caused by the drone strike remain unconfirmed. The situation continues to evolve, and further updates are expected as authorities assess the impact of the recent events.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of passengers and staff at Dubai International Airport, while also addressing the broader implications of ongoing tensions in the region.

Tragic Incident in Assam

“The IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash,” stated the Indian Air Force following the tragic incident on March 6, 2026.

During a routine training mission, the Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft crashed in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, approximately 60 kilometers from Jorhat airbase, where it had taken off. Communication with the aircraft was lost at around 7:42 PM, leading to immediate search and rescue operations.

Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion-like sound near the crash site, raising concerns about the aircraft’s status. The IAF has a fleet of over 260 Su-30MKI jets, which are known for their capabilities as multirole long-range fighter jets developed by Sukhoi.

The aircraft was last in contact just minutes before the crash, and the loss of the two pilots has deeply affected the IAF community. “All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” the IAF added.

This incident marks another tragic event in the history of the Su-30MKI, which has seen previous accidents, including crashes in Nashik in June 2024 and Gwalior in January 2023. The aircraft is built under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the IAF.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact cause of the crash, and investigations are expected to follow to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
