In a significant development for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), fast bowler Umran Malik is set to lead the team’s bowling attack in the upcoming IPL 2026 season. This announcement comes as KKR grapples with a series of injuries that have sidelined key players.
Malik, who has been recovering from injuries for the majority of the last three years, aims to make a strong comeback. He expressed his determination, stating, “I want to play all the matches in this IPL and perform well, and set myself up for an India comeback.” His last notable performance was in the 2022 IPL season, where he took 22 wickets in 14 matches while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The current situation for KKR’s bowling lineup is precarious, with injuries affecting several players. Notably, Harshit Rana and Akash Deep are both unavailable, and Matheesha Pathirana is still recovering from an injury sustained during the T20 World Cup. Additionally, Mustafizur Rahman is out due to diplomatic issues, further complicating KKR’s bowling strategy.
Malik’s speed has been a defining aspect of his game, with his fastest delivery recorded at 157 km/h.
