Yashasvi Jaiswal, the India opener, has joined an exclusive group of cricketers by playing his 30th Test match at a 30th different venue. This milestone was reached during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium on August 15, 2026. He now stands alongside former Indian batters Sanjay Manjrekar and Sachin Tendulkar in achieving this rare feat.
Jaiswal’s Test career began in July 2023 with his debut against the West Indies in Roseau, where he scored 171. Since then, every Test appearance he has made has been at a new ground. His journey has taken him across various continents, including the Caribbean, South Africa, England, Australia, and India, before arriving in Sri Lanka for his 30th Test.
A Unique Record in Test Cricket
This achievement highlights the extensive travel and varied scheduling that characterises modern international cricket. Manjrekar played his first 33 Tests at 33 different venues, while Tendulkar featured at 32 separate venues across his first 32 Test matches. Jaiswal’s record through his 30th Test appearance places him in this company, underscoring the demanding nature of his early career.
The diverse list of venues where Jaiswal has played includes Port of Spain, Centurion, Cape Town, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Kanpur, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Leeds, Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester, The Oval, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, and New Chandigarh, in addition to Roseau and Galle.

In the Galle Test, Jaiswal’s innings was cut short when he was run out for 32 runs off 37 balls, which included five fours. This dismissal occurred after a mix-up with teammate KL Rahul. Jaiswal slipped while attempting a single after being obstructed by Sri Lankan fielder Keshara Nuwantha. Both batters ended up at the same end, with Rahul making his ground first, leading to Jaiswal’s dismissal.
This was the third time Jaiswal has been run out in Test cricket. Previously, he was dismissed in this manner against Australia at the MCG in 2024, scoring 82, and against the West Indies in Delhi last year, where he made 175.
Despite Jaiswal’s departure, India, captained by Shubman Gill, reached 101/1 at lunch on Day 1. Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal stabilised the innings, with Rahul remaining unbeaten on 32 runs off 77 balls, including four fours and a six. Padikkal was also not out on 35 runs off 49 balls, hitting five boundaries. The pair had added an unbeaten 54 runs for the second wicket by lunch.

Before his dismissal, Jaiswal had opened the scoring with a boundary in the first over, playing a flick off Asitha Fernando, and later struck two more fours off Lahiru Kumara in the sixth over.
